Street Story splashes home first in Winning Colors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Getting a perfect outside stalking trip under Florent Geroux, Street Story splashed clear of the opposition in the final furlong Monday in capturing the 12th running of the Grade 3, $100,000 Winning Colors Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Owned by Whispering Oaks Farm, Street Story now has won three stakes from 13 career starts. The 4-year-old daughter of Street Cry returned $17.60 after finishing the six-furlong distance in 1:10.39 over a sloppy track.
Always near the pace after breaking sharply from the outside post in a field of 10 fillies and mares, Street Story took command from her Steve Asmussen-trained stablemate Spring Included nearing the eighth pole before going on to a 1 1/2-length score over the late-closing Heykittykittykitty. Spring Included, the 3-2 favorite, was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third, while Southern Honey, the early pacesetter and 5-2 second choice, faded to ninth.
Last year, Street Story won the ungraded Instant Racing Stakes at Oaklawn and the Grade 3 Victory Ride at Saratoga.
It was the second win in the Winning Colors for Asmussen, who was represented by assistant Darren Fleming. Asmussen won the 2004 inaugural with Lady Tak.
The $2 exacta (10-4) paid $149.80, the $1 trifecta (10-4-9) returned $224.30, and the 10-cent superfecta (10-4-9-3) was worth $117.89.
