Street Sense impresses in final work

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Any questions regarding Street Sense's ability to handle the Monmouth Park surface were answered Tuesday morning after the Kentucky Derby turned in a flawless five-furlong work under regular rider Calvin Borel in preparation for his career finale on Saturday in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Working about 15 minutes after the renovation break, Street Sense went in fractions of 13.15 seconds, 25.69, 37.34 and 49.59 before completing five furlongs in 1:00.78, according to Daily Racing Form. He then galloped out in sensational fashion, getting six furlongs in 1:12.52 and a mile in 1:38.71, much to the delight of trainer Carl Nafzger.

Street Sense was one of four Breeders' Cup horses to work at Monmouth on Tuesday. The others were Balance (Distaff), who went a half-mile in 49.36; Park Avenue Ball (Mile), four furlongs in 46.60; and Set Play (Juvenile Fillies), four furlongs in 47.18.
