Pink Lloyd wins the Overskate Stakes
Michael Burns Pink Lloyd is seeking his eighth consecutive stakes win in Saturday's Grade 2 Kennedy Road.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The unstoppable Pink Lloyd will try to complete a perfect Woodbine campaign and strengthen his case as Canada’s Horse of the Year when he seeks his eighth win of the meet, all in stakes, in Saturday’s Grade 2 Kennedy Road at six furlongs.

Pink Lloyd got the winter off after finishing second to Stacked Deck in last year’s Kennedy Road. His remarkable streak this year includes five restricted stakes scores, along with victories in the Grade 3 Vigil and Jacques Cartier.

Pink Lloyd rallied powerfully from much farther back than usual on Oct. 29 to win the seven-furlong Overskate going away by four lengths.

“We were ecstatic with his last race,” said trainer Robert Tiller. “The way he did it. My big worry is going from seven to six furlongs. I think he’s best going six and a half or seven-eighths. I’ll just bring him over there in good order, and we’ll see what happens. He can win any way. He’s proven that many times. I always knew he could.”

The $175,000 Kennedy Road lured six others, including the New York shipper Tombelaine, who was supplemented for $3,500.

KEY CONTENDERS

Pink Lloyd, by Old Forester
Last 3 Beyers: 95-94-101

◗ This is a must-win for him with regard to Canadian Horse of the Year consideration. His main adversary for that honor is the brilliant Ami’s Mesa, who won three graded stakes before her nose loss in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Del Mar.

Ikerrin Road, by Iffraaj
Last 3 Beyers: 100-84-102

◗ Scooped up by trainer Vito Armata for just $32,000 in May, he’s proven to be one of the best claims of the meet. Armata sent him out to capture the Grade 3 Bold Venture and the allowance prep for the Kennedy Road, for which he got a 100 Beyer.

Tombelaine, by First Defence
Last 3 Beyers 96-95-101

◗ The turf expert is coming off a one-mile win and a $100,000 claim at Belmont by trainer David Cannizzo. He was a troubled fifth here in the Grade 2 Play the King in August.

◗ This will be his first start on a synthetic surface, and six furlongs seems a little short for him.

Yorkton, by Speightstown
Last 3 Beyers: 93-68-94

◗ The lone 3-year-old in the lineup, he was softened up in a speed duel in the fast-paced prep, finishing 3 1/4 lengths behind Ikerrin Road in fourth. He wired the King Corrie Stakes against his own age group here on Sept. 4.
