Stormy Atlantic was a very busy stallion

Dave Goldman|Sep 28, 2001

There were 10 Florida stallions who covered 100 or more mares in 2000.

Stormy Atlantic (Bridlewood Farm) was the leader with 137. A son of Storm Cat, Stormy Atlantic has 86 registered foals.

Family Calling (Hidden Point Farm) is next, covering 116 mares with 76 registered foals. Kissin Kris (Franks Farm) covered 112 and has 71 registered foals. Rizzi (Sez Who Thoroughbreds) was bred to 108 and has 65 registered foals.

Storm Creek (Mockingbird Farm) covered 106 mares before relocating to Kentucky and has 55 registered foals. Line in the Sand (Farnsworth Farms) was also bred to 106 mares and has 64 registered foals.

Rounding out the top 10 are Montbrook (Ocala Stud) with 67 registered foals from 103 mares; Halo's Image (Bridlewood Farm) 102 mares covered and 51 registered foals; Double Honor (Farnsworth Farms) 101 mares and 61 registered foals, and Wild Wonder (Dunhill Stud) 100 mares bred and 48 registered foals.

All 10 of these stallions have at least one foal in the coming OBS Mixed Sale. Family Calling (Mr. Prospector) has 13 cataloged, Wild Wonder (Wild Again) has 10, and Rizzi (Afleet) and Stormy Atlantic (Storm Cat) have eight each.

OBS mixed sales begin Oct. 8

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company will begin the first of its four days of mixed sales 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8. The first two days of the sale are the consignors' preferred sessions. The open sessions are Wednesday and Thursday.

The OBS has cataloged 1,485 horses, including 592 weanlings.

*The day before the sales begins usually is earmarked for the Florida Thoroughbred Farm Managers, Inc.'s annual parade of stallions. But the FTFM has moved its stallion and trade show to the Sunday following Thanksgiving.
