Stormin the Jewels scores as favorite in Casino at the Downs Derby

Stormin the Jewels won his second consecutive stakes race in New Mexico on Sunday, when he held off Forger by a length in the $75,000 Casino at the Downs at Albuquerque Derby. One start prior, Stormin the Jewels won the $50,000 Road Runner Handicap at Ruidoso Downs.
The Casino at the Downs at Albuquerque Derby was a 6 1/2-furlong race restricted to 3-year-olds bred in New Mexico.
Stormin the Jewels ($4) was always prominent, taking control of his rivals through a half-mile in 43.84 seconds. He went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:15.67.
Enrique Gomez was aboard for trainer Fred Danley.
Stormin the Jewels is a son of Attila’s Storm. He races for J & SM, Inc. Earlier in his career, the horse won the $205,000 El Camino Real Futurity at the Downs at Albuquerque.
