ALTOONA, Iowa – The favored Stormation ($4.80) put forth a brazen display of speed and fended off No Holds Barred's steady rally for a one-length win in Saturday's $52,450 Prairie Gold Juvenile.

Breaking well under jockey Jorge Carreno, Stormation led through fractions of 21.76 seconds and 45.42 in the 5 1/2-furlong dash, which attracted eight 2-year-olds. Turning for home, No Holds Barred emerged as the chief threat and chased the winner down the stretch. Stormation, trained at Canterbury Park by Robertino Diodoro, dug in gamely to prevail.

Collecting $29,400 for breeder Mercedes Stables LLC, Stormation, a Stormy Atlantic colt, scored in a solid time of 1:05.29.

Who’s Smokin wins Prairie Gold Lassie

Who's Smokin surged to the front on the turn and held her advantage through the stretch for a one-length win in the $58,488 Prairie Gold Lassie, a 5 1/2-furlong stakes that drew nine 2-year-old fillies.

The favored Who's Smokin ($4.60), who ran her record to 2 for 2 for trainer Jon Arnett, held Cake Baby's bid safe, and fellow Iowa-bred Native Princess rallied into third, 1 3/4 lengths behind Cake Baby.

Ridden by Alex Canchari, Who's Smokin covered the distance in 1:06, and as an Iowa-bred facing open company, the Smoke Glacken filly garnered a 25 percent bonus and earned $36,375 for breeder-owner James M. Hobbs.
