Storm the Court, Gift Box among notable names on Sunday work tab

ARCADIA, Calif. – Storm the Court, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita in November, worked five furlongs in 1:00.60 at Santa Anita on Sunday, his first workout since he was named the champion 2-year-old male of 2019 in a ceremony in Florida last Thursday.
Trained by Peter Eurton, Storm the Court is being prepared for a start in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes, a $200,000 race for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs on Feb. 9. Sunday, Eurton timed Storm the Court galloping out six furlongs in “1:13 and change.”
There were several notable workouts on Sunday. Gift Box, the winner of the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes on Dec. 28, worked five furlongs in 1:01.80. Trainer John Sadler said the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap on March 7 is a goal for Gift Box.
King Abner and Midcourt, second and third in the San Antonio, and Roadster, the winner of the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby last April, worked in advance of expected starts in Saturday’s Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes at 1 1/8 miles.
Roadster, second to Omaha Beach in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes at seven furlongs on Dec. 28, worked six furlongs in 1:12.60, slightly quicker than King Abner, who was timed in 1:12.80. They did not work together.
Midcourt worked five furlongs in 1:00.60.
United, second by a head to eventual Horse of the Year Bricks and Mortar in the Breeders’ Cup Turf here on Nov. 2, worked a half-mile in 50.40 seconds for Saturday’s Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on turf.
Roy H back jogging
The two-time champion sprinter Roy H is jogging “a couple of miles every day” at the San Luis Rey Downs training center in San Diego county, trainer Peter Miller said on Sunday.
Roy H has not raced since a win in the Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes at Santa Anita in January 2019. An 8-year-old gelding, Roy H was sent to Dubai for the Group 1 Golden Shaheen last March, but did not start when an abscess developed in a foot.
The champion sprinter of 2017 and 2018, Roy H had one workout at Santa Anita in September before Miller abandoned plans for a start in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita on Nov. 2, a race he won in 2017 and 2018.
“He looks good now,” Miller said on Sunday.
Owned by Rockingham Ranch and David Bernsen, Roy H has won 10 of 23 starts and earned $3,139,765.
