Stopshoppingdebbie runs unbeaten streak to eight in Boeing Handicap
Undefeated filly Stopshoppingdebbie ran her career record to 8 for 8 with a front-running victory Sunday in the $48,750 Boeing Handicap at Emerald Downs. Facing just three rivals, including two of her Tom Wenzel-trained stablemates, Stopshippingdebbie ran one mile in 1:34.20 and paid $2.40.
Among her growing list of accomplishments, Stopshoppindebbie equaled Ropersandwranglers's track record with her seventh consecutive stakes victory.
Stopshoppingdebbie broke a step slow but followed jockey Rocco Bowen's urgings to take the lead into the first turn. She never looked backed, skipping through splits of 47.25 seconds for the half-mile and 1:11.02 for six furlongs before kicking away through a final quarter-mile in a brisk 23.18 seconds. Goin to the Window gave vain chase to finish second, 2 3/4 lengths behind the winner. Blueberry Smoothie finished third, and Madam Pele was fourth.
Quickly running out of competition at Emerald, Stopshoppingdebbie is likely to start next in the $65,000 Emerald Distaff on Aug. 24, followed, owner Jerre Paxton has indicated, by a possible fall campaign in Southern California. Stopshoppingdebbie earned $27,500 for her Boeing victory, running her lifetime earnings to $211,273.
By Curlin, Stopshoppingdebbie is out of the Wild Again mare Taste the Passion. Paxton's Northwest Farms bred her in Kentucky.
