Stolis Winner falls short in Phillips Handicap

Mary Rampellini|Oct 31, 2010

Stolis Winner’s bid to become Quarter Horse racing’s all-time leading earner fell three-quarters of a length short Saturday night at Lone Star Park, when he finished second to King Brimmerton in the $25,000 B.F. Phillips Jr. Handicap.

Stolis Winner, who stumbled at the start of the 400-yard race, needed to win the first-place check of $14,750 to surpass the mark of $2,126,306 held by Refrigerator. Stolis Winner earned $4,250 on Saturday to lift his career earnings to $2,118,981.

King Brimmerton ($8.60) was ridden to victory by Russel Hadley. Bobby Cox owns the horse, who is trained by John Buchanan.
