Stidham considers running two in Lecomte Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEPinnacle Peak, a game front-running winner of a 2-year-old first-level dirt-route allowance Friday night at Fair Grounds, is a likely runner in the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes on Jan. 16, trainer Mike Stidham said. Stidham could have two horses in the Lecomte, with Noble Thought, a good-looking dirt-route maiden winner here on Dec. 4, also pointed toward the Lecomte.
Pinnacle Peak edged out Tom’s Ready in the Friday night allowance race, earning a career-best 89 Beyer Speed Figure, but Tom’s Ready is likely to come back in another two-turn allowance, trainer Dallas Stewart said this weekend. Dolphus, who pressed the pace in his second career start and ran pretty well to hold a close third Friday night, came out of the race in good shape and is a probable starter in the Lecomte, trainer Joe Sharp said. Sharp said Dolphus, who is Rachel Alexandra’s half-brother, “ran out of training” at the eighth pole and would benefit from his first start around two turns.
* Florent Geroux, among the leading riders here, will serve a seven-day suspension starting Monday, he confirmed Sunday morning.
