HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Anakarina was a dominant winner of her last start. A repeat performance might make her difficult to handle Sunday in the $135,000 Majestic. “If she runs that race back, she’s going to be tough,” trainer Dallas Stewart said. The Majestic is a six-furlong overnight stakes for fillies and mares who have never won a stakes. The field of six includes Spring Dancer, who enters off back-to-back allowance wins at the meet; Ervadean, who is coming off a win in a nonwinners-of-three-lifetime allowance at Oaklawn; and R Pretty Kitty, who owns the field’s best last-race Beyer Speed Figure, an 83. Anakarina earned an 82 Beyer last out when she rolled to a 5 1/4-length win in a ratings handicap April 4 at Oaklawn. Run over six furlongs in the slop, she won on the lead under Erik Asmussen, who will be back aboard from the same post, No. 5. “She’s a very fast filly,” Stewart said. “Erik rode her terrific, just the way she needs to be ridden, last time. The time before she pulled a shoe off leaving the gate, so that didn’t turn out very good. But Erik rode her with all the confidence in the world [last time]. He’s having a great meet. Congratulations to him.” :: Live racing action at Oaklawn Park! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. Anakarina is 4 for 16 in her career. In addition to having won on a wet track, she’s won on fast tracks and on turf. She is a daughter of Vekoma and a half-sister to the Hoist the Gold, a multiple Grade 2 winner of $1.5 million. Anakarina races for Dream Team One Racing Stable. “She’s a very nice filly,” Stewart said. He also will start Ervadean, a daughter of Connect who races for Charles Pigg. She has made two starts at the meet, beginning with a runner-up finish to Gloriette in a second-level allowance in December. Gloriette runs back earlier on the card Sunday. In Ervadean’s March 12 allowance win, she matched Anakarina’s last-race Beyer of 82. “Little Ervadean, she’s a little filly – both of them are kind of small – but they’ve run hard here and they both deserve the opportunity,” said Stewart. Cristian Torres has the mount on Ervadean from post 6. The Sunday card will be the final day at the meet for Torres, who has been battling for leading rider with Ramon Vazquez. Torres is headed to Churchill Downs, where he will ride Search Party in the Kentucky Oaks next Friday and Silent Tactic in the Kentucky Derby next Saturday. Oaklawn’s meet ends next Saturday. Anakarina and Ervadean both have speed, and are situated outside their pace rivals in a draw that could give both Asmussen and Torres options. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
