Stewards suspend Eswan Flores

DEL MAR, Calif.- Jockey Eswan Flores, who has struggled to gain business this year, was suspended by Del Mar stewards on Sunday for failing to appear at a morning hearing regarding a missed drug test in late June, the stewards announced in a ruling.
Flores was scheduled to meet with stewards Scott Chaney, Luis Jauregui, and Kim Sawyer on Sunday, but did not attend. He contacted the stewards through an intermediary and later arrived at the track for a drug test administered by California Horse Racing Board investigators, stewards said.
Flores, 21, did not ride at Santa Anita on June 27 and did not take a drug test ordered that day, leading to Sunday’s scheduled hearing. Flores is subject to a random drug testing program, having tested positive for cocaine in 2012. He was suspended 60 days for the infraction.
This year, Flores has won 6 of 79 mounts, winning twice at Santa Anita and Parx Racing , and once at Penn National and Aqueduct. Flores was winless with two mounts here last Friday. His last win was at Santa Anita on May 30.
