Stevens recuperating from injuries

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Jockey Gary Stevens was recuperating Sunday from a collapsed lung and a shoulder injury at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Ill. The extent of the shoulder injury was not yet known.

Stevens was injured Saturday in the Arlington Million when his mount, Storming Home, shied from something and ducked out sharply just strides from the finish. Stevens managed to hold onto Storming Home across the finish line, winning the race by a half-length, but Storming Home was disqualified to fourth for interfering with Paolini and Kaieteur, who dead-heated for third but were placed second behind Sulamani, who was elevated from second to the win.

As Kaieteur galloped out past the finish, he appeared to step on Stevens, who lay prone on the turf course before rising to sit. Stevens was taken off the course on a stretcher, complaining of dizziness and shoulder pain.
