OCEANPORT, N.J. - Jockey Bernard Dalton sustained a fractured right clavicle in a steeplechase spill on Friday at Monmouth Park.

Dalton went down in a three-horse pileup in the third race. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where the injury was diagnosed.

The incident put a damper the return of the jumpers to Monmouth. The two steeplechase races were the first at the track since the fall of 2010.

The spill occurred about a mile into the race, over the fifth fence in the 2 1/4-miles allowance. Dalton, 45, was the only one injured in as the two other riders, Jeff Murphy and Kieran Norris, escaped harm, as did all three horses
