Statue of Liberty sold

Glenye Cain Oakford|Nov 26, 2007
Coolmore Stud in Ireland has sold first-crop sire Statue of Liberty to East Stud in Japan, the Racing Post has reported.

The 7-year-old Storm Cat horse has sired Italian stakes winner Black Mambazo, Group 3-placed Galaktea, and stakes-placed New Jersey from his first crop of runners this year. He has progeny earnings of $477,155.

Statue of Liberty won the Group 3 Coventry Stakes in 2002 and finished second the following year in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes. He won 2 of 7 starts and finished second once for earnings of $164,658. He is out of the Seattle Slew mare Charming Lassie, making him a half-brother to 1999 Belmont Stakes winner and 2000 champion older male Lemon Drop Kid and to Grade 2 winner Brulay.
