Start Somethin Bad among four fillies in Pacific Coast Breeders' Futurity final
Start Somethin Bad will start in her first futurity in the $430,000 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Futurity at Los Alamitos on Saturday, one of four fillies in the 350-yard final.
Start Somethin Bad was the fastest qualifier from 10 time trials on Sept. 11, winning the third division in 17.69 seconds. Trained by Paul Jones, Start Somethin Bad will be ridden by Cesar De Alba, who was aboard for the trial race win.
Start Somethin Bad drew post 5, and will have one of her main rivals to her outside in Six Zeroes, a trial race winner and another of the fillies in the final. Six Zeroes is trained by Jose Flores, who also starts the unbeaten Thirty Six Curls, who has won twice.
Thirty Six Curls won a 300-yard maiden race on Aug. 26 and the second division of the time trials on Sept. 11, in 17.75 seconds.
In the trials, Six Zeroes finished a nose in front of Racy High Roller, who is trained by Christopher O’Dell. Racy High Roller was fourth in the Ed Burke Million Futurity in June and has career earnings of $82,850, the highest among the finalists for the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity.
Two other runners have run in six-figure futurities. Doctor Fantastic was sixth in the Bitterroot Futurity in Idaho in June, while Kiddy Up Cowgirl, another of the fillies in the field, was last of 10 in the Governor’s Cup Futurity at Los Alamitos in July.
