Starship Bonita ($71.80) leads 1-2 finish for Dwoskin in Sheer Drama

The Steve Dwoskin-trained longshots Starship Bonita and Starship Nala finished first and second in the $75,000 Sheer Drama at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.
Starship Bonita paid $71.80 for her three-quarter-length win over her stablemate, who was sent off at 16.60-1 in the seven-furlong race for Florida-bred fillies and mares. The $1 exacta paid $217.70.
The Sheer Drama was part of the Rainbow 6, which had a mandatory payout. With another longshot, Jupiter Blues paying $88.80 in the second leg in the sequence, the Rainbow 6 returned $313,299.84. The late Pick 5 was not hit and there will be a $140,079 carryover for the late Pick 5 on Sunday.
With Jesus Rios riding, Starship Bonita was biding her time while Thissmytime carved out interior fractions of 22.54 and 45.22 seconds. She made her presence known while moving between horses on the stretch turn. After tipping three wide turning for home, she wore down Starship Nala late.
Starship Nala broke last, moved up to force the pace while going three-wide, took over the lead midstretch, but could not hold off her stablemate. Thissmyname held on to finish third.

A 6-year-old daughter of Gone Astray, Starship Bonita was bred by Mr. and Mrs. William A. T. Rainbow.
In the supporting feature, Summering paid $4.00 for her three-length win over Kahiko in the $60,000 North Bay Village Handicap. She was ridden by Emisael Jaramillo.
Trained by Thomos Proctor for Glen Hill Farm, Summering posted a final time of 1.33.30 in the one-mile turf race for fillies and mares.
The 5-year-old daughter of War Front was bred in Florida by her owner.
