Stars of Tomorrow card draws full fields
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Field size is strong for the Stars of Tomorrow card that opens the Churchill Downs fall meet Sunday – with spectators allowed – as 115 horses, including 11 also-eligibles, have been entered in 11 races on a program restricted exclusively to 2-year-olds.
A pair of $98,000 stakes, the Street Sense (race 8) and Rags to Riches (race 10), are the highlights of a card otherwise comprised of one allowance (race 5) and eight maiden events. Both stakes will be run at 1 1/16 miles.
The Street Sense drew seven colts and geldings, with all of them eligible for a first-level allowance condition. Super Stock (post 7, Ricardo Santana Jr.), third in both the Iroquois and Breeders’ Futurity, owns the three highest Beyer Speed Figures in the field and surely will be favored for Churchill’s all-time leading trainer, Steve Asmussen.
The Rags to Riches got nine fillies, with Coach (post 8, Florent Geroux) being the only two-time winner in the group. The Brad Cox-trained filly could be challenged for favoritism by Lady Traveler, Malibu Bird, and Midnight Ballerina in what shapes up as a well-matched lineup.
Sunday will be the first of two Stars of Tomorrow cards at a 24-day meet that runs through Nov. 29, with the second going Nov. 28.
Churchill will run five-day weeks (Wednesdays through Sundays), except for when the two-day Breeders’ Cup is run at Keeneland. The first of eight graded stakes at the meet is the Mrs. Revere on Nov. 14. First post daily is 1 p.m. Eastern, except for Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26 (11:30 a.m.).
Spectators will be permitted on-site on a limited basis, with Churchill officials to outline those conditions sometime prior to opening day. Since the pandemic began in March, no fans have been permitted at any Kentucky track, except for during the summer meet at Ellis Park.
