ELMONT, N.Y. – Stan the Man, a popular stakes-winning gelding on this circuit, has been retired from racing, trainer John Terranova confirmed Friday. Terranova said Stan the Man started to show some signs of bone bruising and it didn’t appear that, even given time, he would be able to return at the level at which he’s competed for most of his career. He last raced May 8, finishing fourth in the Runhappy Stakes at Belmont. Stan the Man, a 7-year-old gelding by Tale of the Cat, compiled a record of 7-9-3 from 29 starts and banked $556,124 for Stephen Mack’s Long Lake Stable. In addition to winning two stakes, Stan the Man placed in a trio of graded stakes – the Fall Highweight, Westchester, and True North. “He retired sound, it just didn’t look like we were going to go on at the level he’s been running at,” Terranova said. “He had a nice career, it’s been fun, we’re going to miss him.” His stakes wins came in the Queens County at Aqueduct and the Tale of the Cat at Saratoga. :: Enhance your handicapping with DRF’s Belmont Park Clocker Report Terranova said Stan the Man was sent to ReRun, a horse retraining facility in East Greenbush, N.Y, where he will likely be trained for a second career.
