Preakness Stakes winner Exaggerator and Grade 1 winner Carpe Diem will relocate from Kentucky to Texas and Louisiana, respectively, to continue their stud careers. Exaggerator, a Curlin horse who entered stud in 2017, and Carpe Diem, a Giant's Causeway horse who entered stud in 2016, both previously stood at WinStar Farm in Kentucky. Exaggerator has been repurchased by Texas-based Rocker O Ranch, which co-campaigned him during his racing career with Big Chief Racing, Head of Plains Partners, and trainer Keith Desormeaux. Exaggerator won five graded stakes, including Grade 1 triumphs in the Santa Anita Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Haskell Invitational. His four graded stakes placings included a runner-up effort in the Kentucky Derby, and he earned more than $3.5 million. “Exaggerator gave us the greatest thrills of our lifetime,” Rocker O’s Cole Ortowski said in a release distributed by WinStar. “We are excited to be bringing him back into the family.” Exaggerator is the sire of stakes winners Gagetown, Pacific Coast, and Sea Level. Carpe Diem will be syndicated in Louisiana by a group led by Dawn and Jeff Picard’s Picard Racing and David Tillson. He will stand the upcoming breeding season at Acadiana Equine at Copper Crowne in Louisiana. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales “We have a strong relationship with David Tillson and Acadiana Equine,” Liam O’Rourke, director of bloodstock services for WinStar, said. “We look forward to continued success with Carpe Diem.” Millionaire Carpe Diem raced for WinStar Farm in partnership with Stonestreet Stables. He was a Grade 1 winner at Keeneland at ages 2 and 3, taking the Breeders' Futurity and the Blue Grass Stakes. He also won the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby, and was second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Carpe Diem is the sire of stakes winners Bella Aurora, Monforte, Thissmytime, Van Daelen, and Wait for Nairobi. Meanwhile, WinStar will stand a 17-horse roster in 2022, including newcomer Independence Hall.
