Stall optimistic Forevamo can run well in Risen Star
Forevamo was a 3-1 chance in a 10-horse field when he debuted last summer at Saratoga, so it’s fair to say there were hopes for this Uncle Mo colt, purchased at a sale of 2-year-olds in training by the Brittlyn Stables for $320,000. Forevamo finished third that day, was second at 6-5 in a Churchill maiden race, and even in his most recent start could only finish second as the favorite in a first-level allowance race here. But despite his record now of one win from five starts, Forevamo is headed in the right direction, trainer Al Stall hopes, which is why he’s getting a shot Saturday in the Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds.
“He acts different than he did two months ago,” Stall said. “His last race was good; his works have been better than before. All those indicators say take a chance.”
Forevamo chased Risen Star starter Candy My Boy through a slow pace at a short-stretch mile when he came home second Jan. 18, rebounding from a slop flop in the Delta Jackpot.
“We tried to teach him a little bit more last time, and it ended up working against us because there was no pace, but hopefully it was a means to an end,” said Stall.
