Stakes-winning turf sprinter Imprimis retired

Kim Pratt Imprimis won six stakes, including the 2018 Jim McKay Turf Sprint at Pimlico (above).
Imprimis, a standout turf sprinter, has been retired because of a minor ankle injury that precluded him from further racing, trainer Joe Orseno said Wednesday.
“We maybe could’ve swam him and rehabbed him for six months and brought him back,” said Orseno, “but he’s just been too good to us to ask him to do all that at his age.”
Imprimis, an 8-year-old gelding by Broken Vow, won six stakes and had seven triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures and $883,483 in earnings from 21 starts. The Florida-bred is owned by the Breeze Easy partnership of Mike Hall and Sam Ross.
“He’s just a cool old horse with the right owners,” said Orseno. “We’re looking into getting him into Old Friends,” the equine retirement home in Georgetown, Ky.
