Stakes-winning sprinter Holly Dolly retired

Coady Media Sprinter Holly Dolly, who won stakes at Zia Park and Remington Park, has been retired.

Holly Dolly, who won sprint stakes at Remington Park and Zia Park, has been retired to join the broodmare band of her owner, Tom Durant, according to trainer Ray Ashford Jr.

“She’s moved into the broodmare business,” said Ashford.

Holly Dolly came to hand last year at Remington, where she won four straight races, including the Flashy Lady Stakes. From there, she added a fifth consecutive win when shipping to New Mexico for the Zia Park Distaff.

Holly Dolly is a six-time winner who also finished second five times during her 16-race career. And while she has a strong desire to win, one of her most notable races came in defeat at Oaklawn Park, said Ashford.

“Maybe one of her best races was when she ran second to Taxed,” Ashford said of a March allowance in which Holly Dolly was beaten a neck. “She really ran good that day, had a little bit of traffic trouble. That’s probably up there on her résumé. That Taxed is a nice mare, has made a million dollars. So that’s probably one of her best races, even in defeat, because Taxed is a good one.”

Holly Dolly is a 5-year-old mare by Brody’s Cause.

Durant and Ashford have a notable sprinter in the barn for the Remington meet in Run Classic. Ashford said he is being pointed for the $100,000 David M. Vance for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs Sept. 28.

Stakes winner Run Classic last raced in April and was second to the multiple graded stakes-winning Skelly in an allowance at Oaklawn. He has since been working at Remington.
