Stakes winner Lakerville retired

ARCADIA, Calif. – Lakerville, a stakes winner on the hillside turf course, has been retired, trainer Barry Abrams said Friday.
The 6-year-old Lakerville won 5 of 11 starts and $318,910 in a career highlighted by a win in the Clocker’s Corner Stakes last January. Lakerville was in training for a potential start in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 1 when he was injured.
“It’s minor, but he would need two months off,” Abrams said. “It’s time for him to be a stallion.”
By Unusual Heat, Lakerville is out of Foreverinthegame, by Out of Place. Lakerville is a full brother to the three-time stakes winner Gervinho, who has earned $422,140.
◗ The first $2 daily double linking the final race at Belmont Park with a race at Santa Anita produced a payoff of $229 on Thursday. The winners were Chang’s Secret ($21.40) in the ninth at Belmont Park and La Casadora ($19) in the fourth at Santa Anita. The bet had a modest pool of $26,487.
◗ There is racing at Santa Anita on Monday, Columbus Day. The afternoon’s top race is the $100,000 Speakeasy Stakes for 2-year-olds over six furlongs. Story to Tell, the winner of the Willard Proctor Memorial Stakes at Los Alamitos in July, and Lord Nelson, fourth in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 3, are among the expected runners.
