Stakes schedule includes 35 races for $3.59 million
The Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby on Sept. 28 leads an expanded 35-race, $3.59 million stakes schedule for the Remington Park meet that opens Aug. 15. The 67-date season will run through Dec. 14.
The Oklahoma Derby, at 1 1/8 miles, will anchor a card of seven stakes worth $1,025,000. The program is one of three major dates at Remington. The $1,040,000 Oklahoma Classics program of eight divisional statebred stakes is Oct. 17, while a package of five stakes led by the $250,000 Springboard Mile for 2-year-olds and the new $100,000 She’s All In will be worth a cumulative $550,000 Dec. 14.
The Oklahoma Derby is the meet’s richest race, and it will again be supported by such notable stakes as the $200,000 Remington Park Oaks at 1 1/16 miles; the $150,000 Remington Park Sprint Cup at six furlongs; and the $100,000 Remington Green at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Oklahoma Derby Day will take place on the first of just two Sunday cards this meet, with Remington otherwise scheduled to race on a Wednesday-through-Saturday basis.
The other Sunday program is the Springboard Mile card that this year includes the She’s All In, a one-mile, 70-yard race for fillies and mares named for the millionaire who was retired last year. Other races on the program include The Trapeze, a $100,000 race for 2-year-old fillies at a mile that complements the Springboard Mile.
The Razorback series for Arkansas-breds Nov. 8 is new to Remington after having been run for more than two decades at Louisiana Downs. The Razorback and Lady Razorback are for 2-year-olds, and each has a purse of $50,000.
Remington’s stakes action gets underway Aug. 16 with the $175,000 Governor’s Cup for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles. It is the final leg of the Global Gaming Triple that includes a pair of Grade 3 races at Remington’s sister track, Lone Star Park. A $15,000 bonus is tied to the race, and two horses remain eligible for it, Grand Contender and Texas Air.
