The stakes-placed Pan Handle turned in the fastest time at six furlongs on Saturday during the Hastings paddock sale preview day at Hastings Racecourse, stopping the clock in 1:12 4/5 over a sloppy main track. Pan Handle, a 3-year-old Texas Wildcatter gelding, has run second in two of his four career starts, including a runner-up effort in last year’s Jack Diamond Futurity at Hastings. He raced for owner Glen Todd’s North American Thoroughbred Horse Company, which also consigned the gelding at the paddock sale. Todd also trains Pan Handle. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales Bred in British Columbia by Salishan Meadows and North American Thoroughbred Horse Company, Pan Handle is out of the winning Thunder Gulch mare Thunder Goddess, who is the dam of three winners from five foals to race. His extended family includes Grade 3 winners The Seven Seas and Royal Gem. Horses entered in the sale had the option to breeze or gallop during the preview day, and only a handful of the offerings registered a time on Saturday. Other racing-age horses going under the clock for six furlongs were Act Up, a winning Stephanoatis gelding who went in 1:13, and Kelson, a winning Sungold gelding. Eight juveniles are entered in the paddock sale, and one turned in a time on Saturday: the Haynesfield colt No Bid, who went a quarter-mile in 25. :: Get breeding & sales news, Beyer info, and more delivered right to your email!
