Stakes next for unbeaten Magnum Moon

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Todd Pletcher has to decide where to get started on the Derby trail with Magnum Moon, whose two-length victory Thursday in a two-turn allowance at Tampa Bay Downs kept the colt unbeaten and untested in two starts.
Magnum Moon, owned by Robert and Lawana Low, earned an 87 Beyer Speed Figure and never was asked for his best by jockey Luis Saez in defeating four other 3-year-olds as a 1-10 favorite in the mile and 40-yard race. The Malibu Moon colt already was in the Derby Watch Top 20 after earning a 95 Beyer in his career debut in a six-furlong maiden race on Jan. 13 at Gulfstream.
Magnum Moon is among a handful of Derby prospects based at Palm Beach Downs with Pletcher, along with Audible, Vino Rosso, and Noble Indy, who was in New Orleans on Saturday to run in the Risen Star Stakes.
