Remington Park has a stakes double for 2-year-olds on Friday night, and the newly created races are named for a pair of Oklahoma-bred standouts, Don McNeill and Slide Show. Each race is worth $75,000.

Slide Show, a daughter of Slewacide, won eight stakes races and went 12 for 25 in her career for earnings of $347,917. McNeill bred and raced Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Caleb’s Posse, Remington Park Derby winner Clever Trevor, and the millionaire Mr Ross. McNeill died in March.

“Breeding horses was always an important part of our family identity,” said McNeill’s son, Ryan McNeill. “My dad was from western Oklahoma, and his father died when he was young, when he was around 14. As a way of keeping a connection with his dad, he bought his first broodmare at 16.”

Don McNeill (Race 8)

KEY CONTENDERS

Royal Lion (Last 3 Beyers: 72-74-67)

◗ He was a close third in the $101,000 Clever Trevor on Nov. 6 at Remington Park, his third stakes placing, following the $75,000 Prairie Meadows Juvenile and the $75,000 Sunday Silence at Louisiana Downs.

◗ Royal Lion will be making his first start in the Oklahoma-bred ranks in the McNeill. Deshawn Parker has the mount for 7 Cedars Farm and trainer Clinton Stuart.

Mr. N (Last 3 Beyers: 68-65-65)

◗ He goes for the red-hot owner-trainer team of Carl Moore and Bret Calhoun, who won two stakes last Saturday night at Delta Downs, including the Grade 3 Princess.

◗ Mr. N is back with statebreds after running second to the well-regarded Secret Passage in an optional $75,000 claiming race Nov. 12 at Remington. It was the two-turn debut for Mr. N.

Slide Show (Race 7)

KEY CONTENDERS

Another Bond Girl (Last 3 Beyers: 60-52-54)

◗ She is returning to the Oklahoma-bred ranks, and the last time she ran against such foes, she won the $87,000 Oklahoma Classics Lassie on Oct. 16 at Remington.

◗ The daughter of Don’t Get Mad will be making her two-turn debut off a fast-closing third in the $50,000 Gaylord Memorial at 6 1/2 furlongs at Remington.

◗ Glen Murphy, who is approaching a milestone of 3,000 wins in North America, has the mount for trainer Brent Davidson. Murphy had won 2,995 races through Tuesday.

Go No Go (Last 3 Beyers: 51-67-50)

◗ She was just edged by Another Bond Girl in the Lassie.

◗ She should appreciate the move to two turns as a daughter of Arkansas Derby winner Archarcharch.
