Barbara D. Livingston Carameaway, trained by Mitch Friedman, wins the Saratoga Dew under Rajiv Maragh.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Trainer Mitch Friedman stole the show when he sent out Carameaway and Dreaming of Cara to finish first and second in Thursday’s $100,000 Saratoga Dew Stakes at Saratoga. Get Gorgeous was a distant third, with 4-5 favorite Tahoe Tigress last in the field of seven New York-bred fillies and mares.

Carameaway stalked the pace of Easy Living in the 1 1/8-mile race, overtook that rival before six furlongs, and proved 3 1/2 lengths better than Dreaming of Cara.

Dreaming of Cara, reserved near the rear of the pack early, moved to closer contention leaving the backstretch and was second best. Tahoe Tigress raced wide, labored throughout, and was never a factor.

Carameaway, a daughter of Lawyer Ron, and Dreaming of Cara are both owned by Richard Greeley. Coupled in the wagering, they paid $11.20 to win and $11 to place. Rajiv Maragh rode Carameaway, who covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:52.54 over a "good" track.

Carameaway hadn't raced since finishing eighth in the Critical Eye Stakes at Belmont on May 31.

“Last time she ran, she ran a subpar race but she was sick,” said Friedman. “We gave her the time to get better. I just told Rajiv to lay off the pace a bit and it worked out. I’m glad for the owner. He’s put a lot of money into this business, he’s a loyal owner and breeder, and he deserves this.”

* Schoodic drew clear in the run to the wire to register a four-,length victory over 2-1 favorite Address Unknown in the Michael G. Walsh Novice Stakes, decided at 2 3/8 miles over the hurdles. Bluegrass Summer finished third. Only six of the nine starters completed the course.

Schoodic was ridden to victory by Paddy Young for trainer Jack Fisher and paid $9.10.
