St Anthony enjoying Northern California, takes Robert Dupret Derby
Racing in Northern California has been a salvation for St Anthony, the 3-year-old gelding who won Saturday’s $75,450 Robert Dupret Derby at the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa.
St Anthony is unbeaten in three starts in Northern California, but winless in five starts in Southern California since the beginning of his career in January.
St Anthony beat maidens in his third start at Golden Gate Fields in March, and won his stakes debut there in the $75,900 Alcatraz Stakes on turf on May 29.
St Anthony finished eighth in the $104,000 Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar on July 22 after a wide trip. In the Dupret Derby, St Anthony had another wide trip, but this time was able to rally past the stretch leaders and win by a half-length.
Ridden by Pedro Terrero, St Anthony ran 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:42.57 and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 77, which equals his career best.
