ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Sprung Loose goes back to his preferred Tapeta surface among a field of seven in Friday’s Woodbine headliner combining Ontario-sired allowance types with $40,000 claimers, all of the nonwinners-of-three variety.

Sprung Loose ended a drought when beating nonwinners-of-two Ontario-sired allowance stock in his final 2025 appearance in December. Off a seven-month absence July 12, the 5-year-old Danish Dynaformer gelding rallied inside from fifth to finish a close second.

Sprung Loose competed over the nine-furlong distance of Friday’s feature at this level Aug. 2. After a stalking trip in the slow-paced event, he finished a clear second behind front-running Cash the Money, who subsequently ran third in a fast open allowance.

Switching from Tapeta to the main turf most recently, Sprung Loose tracked a fast pace in third until the final furlong before fading to fourth in the one-turn route. He earned a 67 Beyer Speed Figure then, much lower than his three previous Beyers of 77.

Jeffrey Alderson will ride probable favorite Sprung Loose again from post 1 for owner/trainer Kyle Sharman.

Completing the sixth-race lineup are Holiday Snooze, Mohaymen Diamond, and Sluggernaut, along with three fillies – Pageant Queen, Peace Posey, and Spun Around.

Holiday Snooze has been idle since a flat fourth July 12 behind Call Me Sue, Sprung Loose, and Mohaymen Diamond. The 4-year-old was previously third in two more races at this level on different surfaces. He has earned a string of Beyers in the low 70s since early last fall, all with Ryan Munger aboard for trainer Danny Yu.

Mohaymen Diamond has stuck to two-turn racing, for the most part, since beating nonwinners-of-two opposition going seven furlongs in October. After a troubled fourth in the Aug. 2 Cash the Money victory, he cut back to seven furlongs four weeks later and checked in fourth after running against a bias that favored speed and inside runners. Daisuke Fukumoto retains the mount for trainer Chetram Mohabir.

Sluggernaut has started just twice since crushing $10,000 maidens in late November. He was protected by waiver when a non-threatening seventh behind Delta Force in his belated season opener for $25,000 on Aug. 14. Rafael Hernandez will get a leg up from trainer Kevin Attard on the son of Frac Daddy.

Pageant Queen has struggled since beating nonwinners-of-two Ontario-sired females going six furlongs in her April 25 seasonal bow. She added blinkers for the Aug. 30 Algoma Stakes and was never in contention in the seven-furlong sprint for graduates of Canadian yearling sales.

Peace Posey returned from a nine-week absence Aug. 20 to finish a good third against her own sex on the main turf, from which victorious Just Magnificent exited to run second behind Elysian Field in the Belfountain Stakes.

The speedy Spun Around finished fifth in all three of her outings at the meet, most recently behind Just Magnificent and Peace Posey. She has never cracked 70 on the Beyer scale, which also is the case with Pageant Queen.
