Sprinter finds easier company in allowance

DRF Staff|Oct 22, 2001

You and You Alone, a strong third in both of his last two tries against much tougher competition, heads a field of seven in Wednesday's feature at Bay Meadows, a second-level allowance at six furlongs.

You and You Alone has made five starts this season and has one win, a second, and two thirds. Trained by Clifford Delima, You and You Alone began his season in April with a strong second behind Flom's Prospector. He came right back in his next start to post a neck decision for his third career victory.

After finishing fifth in the Sam Whiting Handicap at Pleasanton, You and You Alone finished third in the Grade 3 Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Sprint behind Lexicon. Last time out, he showed sharp speed in a six-furlong race and again wound up third behind Radar Contact and Roaring Red.

Mellow Fellow, making his first start since June, closed late in his return to Bay Meadows on Oct. 3 to finish third, beaten only a half-length. If he can improve just a little bit in his second start off the layoff, he will be tough to beat.

Last season Mellow Fellow was winless in eight starts but did finish second in both the El Conejo and the Grade 3 Los Angeles Handicap in Southern California.

Boss Ego and Money Shot will be coupled in the wagering and should also draw strong support. Boss Ego spent the summer at Arlington Park with a division of the Jerry Hollendorfer stable but failed to threaten in three starts there. He has been training very well since returning to northern California. Last season, he captured three races and was beaten only a neck by Peach Flat in the Grade 3 All American Handicap at Golden Gate Fields.

Money Shot has already posted three wins in nine starts this season. He failed to threaten last time out in a 1 1/16-mile race over the Bay Meadows turf course but seems to prefer the main track and the sprint distance of Wednesday's feature.
