Sprint-to-route move should help Streaks Bro in Dominguez Memorial

Streaks Bro wins the New Mexico Cup Classic
Coady Photography Streaks Bro earned a career-high Beyer when he won the New Mexico Cup Classic.

Streaks Bro moves from 6 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles on Saturday, when he starts as the 121-pound highweight in the $85,000 Albert Dominguez Memorial Handicap at Sunland Park. The Dominguez is restricted to 4-year-olds and up bred in New Mexico.

Streaks Bro, 5, won the richest race for older New Mexico-breds last year, capturing the $180,000 New Mexico Cup Classic, a one-mile race Oct. 30 at Zia Park.

◗ He earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 85 in the New Mexico Cup Classic, rallying from midpack for a 2 3/4-length win.

◗ Streaks Bro has raced twice since then, finishing ninth when facing open company in the $150,000 Zia Park Distance Championship in November, then 11th in the $85,000 Johnie L. Jamison Handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs in December at Sunland.

◗ Justin Shepherd has the mount from post 5 for trainer Gary Cross.

D E Lover, by So Long Birdie

Last 3 Beyers: 68-83-85

◗ The second highweight in the Dominguez at 120 pounds, he will be making a rare start at two turns. He won at two turns in July, capturing an optional $20,000 claiming race over 7 1/2 furlongs at Ruidoso Downs.

◗ D E Lover is a five-time stakes winner co-owned and trained by Tony Sedillo, who in September won the Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity for Quarter Horses with Imperial Eagle.

◗ He is looking for the 10th stakes win of his career and is coming off a nose score in a two-turn allowance Dec. 13 at Zia.

◗ That’s Who is 17 for 38 in his career and 3 for 12 at Sunland.
