ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Split My Pants finished sixth in his stakes debut in the Bunty Lawless Stakes in his most recent start on Oct. 20 and is pointing to another stakes engagement for his next start. Trainer Catherine Day Phillips said Split My Pants is on track for a start in the $100,000 Sir Barton Stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds and up over 1 1/16 miles on Tapeta on Saturday. Split My Pants has spent most of his racing career in the allowance ranks. He encountered traffic trouble early on in the Bunty Lawless, but closed well under jockey Patrick Husbands and was beaten just 1 1/4 lengths. “I think in his last race he had a bit of a rough trip and came flying at the end,” Day Phillips said. “Patrick will be back on him, and hopefully, he’ll know him a little bit better and that will be to our advantage.” Day Phillips said Split My Pants has been training well since the Bunty Lawless. He breezed four furlongs in 49.60 seconds on the main track Nov. 23. Split My Pants has made his last five starts on turf, but did race on the Tapeta in a seven-furlong sprint to begin his 2019 campaign on May 4, finishing second to eventual Overskate Stakes winner Dixie’s Gamble. Day Phillips said she had no concerns about the switch in surfaces. “He’s run well on both,” she said. “I think his numbers are comparable on both. He seems to be a versatile horse. He’s run well on the outer turf, the inner turf, and the synthetic. He’s a handy horse.”
