Splashing gets back on turf in feature
From late October to mid-February, the 5-year-old mare Splashing finished in the top three in five consecutive races, all on the synthetic main track and turf course at Golden Gate Fields.
Splashing began that streak with a second in a $20,000 claimer on turf last October. She is back on turf for the first time since that race in a $12,500 claimer at 1 1/16 miles on Thursday.
The turf claimer is the sixth of seven races on a program that begins at 12:45 p.m. Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
Splashing, by Tapizar, has won 5 of 31 starts. Trained by Isidro Tamayo, Splashing was third in a $16,000 claimer at a mile on the synthetic track in February. She took her customary position at the back of the field and closed with interest to finish 2 1/2 lengths behind Smiling Ann. She has not raced since then.

Jockey Juan Hernandez has ridden Splashing in her last three starts and has the mount Thursday. Hernandez was aboard Splashing when she recorded a nose win in a $20,000 claimer at a mile on the synthetic track Jan. 20.
Splashing is part of a field of seven and will have early targets in Exactamente or Everybody Does It.
Exactamente, a 7-year-old trained by Cliff DeLima, is winless in three starts this year, but won two sprints for $12,500 claimers in 2019 – a six-furlong dirt race at Pleasanton last July and a five-furlong turf race at Golden Gate Fields in November.
Thursday’s race is the first around two turns for Exactamente since a fifth in a $20,000 claimer at 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic track last August.
Everybody Does It, a 6-year-old mare trained by Frank Lucarelli, won a $12,500 claimer at a mile on turf at Golden Gate Fields last August, closing from last in a field of six. Everybody Does It has set the pace through slow fractions in recent starts. She faded to finish third in her last two starts.
Racing will be held at Golden Gate Fields through Monday this week.
The Memorial Day program on Monday is highlighted by the $100,000 All American Stakes at a mile on the synthetic track. Restrainedvengence, winner of the Curribot Handicap at Sunland Park in March, is a candidate, trainer Val Brinkerhoff said Sunday.
