Spit Curl Diva upset Stolis Winner’s bid to become Quarter Horse racing’s all-time leading earner on Saturday night, when she edged him by a head in a three-way photo in the Grade 1, $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap at Lone Star Park. It was another nose back in third to King Brimmerton. Stolis Winner was seeking to break Refrigerator’s earnings mark of $2,126,309, but needed $28,579 to do so. For his runner-up finish Saturday, he earned $17,000. Spit Curl Diva ($19.80) jumped out to the lead in the 440-yard race and then held off the rush of Stolis Winner, who stumbled at the start. The winner covered the distance in 21.36 seconds. She was ridden by David Brown. Jody Brown trains Spit Curl Diva for Lepic-Morgan Partnership. With the win, the filly earned a berth into the Grade 1, $750,000 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos in December.
