Spill creates no contest at Los Al

Jay Privman|Dec 31, 2004

The fourth race on Thursday night at Los Alamitos was declared no contest after a horse and rider went down during the early stages of the six-furlong Arabian race. Los Alamitos is five furlongs in circumference, so the injured parties would have been in the path of the remaining runners when they came around again for the stretch run.

Jockey April Grenamyer fell after her mount, the mare All Bright, clipped heels with another horse at the sixteenth pole, 110 yards after the start of the race. The field continued to race briefly, but was waved off by outriders because both horse and rider remained on the inner part of the track.

Grenamyer suffered a broken right leg, according to track spokesman Orlando Gutierrez. All Bright was euthanized because of neck injuries.
