Spendthrift Farm's Gustavson elected to Breeders' Cup board of directors
Eric Gustavson, the president of Spendthrift Farm in Central Kentucky, has been newly elected to the Breeders’ Cup board of directors, while William S. Farish Jr. of Lane’s End Farm, and Alex Solis II, of Solis/Litt Bloodstock, were re-elected, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The three were each elected to four-year terms. Gustavson has never served on the board and will fill the seat previously held by Anthony Manganaro. Farish is a two-time former chairman of the organization, and Solis will serve his second term on the board.
Gustavson has been at Spendthrift, which is owned by B. Wayne Hughes, since 2006 and has presided over the growth of the operation’s stallion roster into the largest in the U.S. along with the farm’s implementation of a revenue-sharing program for breeders and its investment in a micro-ownership partnerhip.
In a release, Breeders’ Cup chairman Fred Hertrich III said that the organization would “look forward to Eric’s conscientious and thought-provoking approach in supporting our initiatives and enhancing our mission and vision.”

Directors are elected to the 14-member board on a staggered basis by the Breeders’ Cup Members, a 43-member body. The board is responsible for overseeing the organization and selecting host sites for the two-day Breeders’ Cup event.
