Spendthrift boosts Into Mischief’s fee for 2013

DRF Breeding Staff|Dec 13, 2012

Spendthrift Farm announced Thursday that Grade 1 winner Into Mischief, among this season’s leading freshman sires, will stand for $10,000 in 2013, an increase from his previously announced fee.

The 7-year-old Harlan’s Holiday horse had been scheduled to stand for $7,500, the same as his 2012 fee. Fees will be payable when the foal stands and nurses.

“Into Mischief is having a terrific year with his first crop of 2-year-olds, and the demand from breeders has been overwhelming,” Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey said.

Into Mischief, with seven winners from 22 starters, currently ranks third by progeny earnings among freshman sires with a total of $1,088,048. His three stakes winners are led by Goldencents, who won the Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot and also finished second to likely divisional champion Shanghai Bobby in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes.

Also among Into Mischief’s first crop are Sittin at the Bar, winner of the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes and placed in two other stakes races; and Traskwood Stakes winner Vyjack.

“The fact that he’s already had three stakes winners from just [22] 2-year-old starters has gotten a lot of attention, and all three stakes winners have run fast numbers at top racetracks,” stallion director Ken Wilkins said.

Into Mischief never finished worse than second in six career starts while earning $597,080. His biggest victory came in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity in 2007; his three graded stakes placings included a runner-up effort in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes.

Out of the stakes-winning Tricky Creek mare Leslie’s Lady, Into Mischief is a half brother to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Beholder.
