Speedy Soul charges home to take Passing Mood Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Speedy Soul ($4.30) rallied down the center of the main turf course from last to take the $100,000 Passing Mood Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday.
Silent Mistake flashed breakaway speed in the seven-furlong event, setting a lively pace while being tracked by Ciuri, who assumed command early in the stretch.
Speedy Soul bided her time in eighth on the turn, and then came charging through stretch to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths over a troubled Sav, in a time of 1:21.55.
Miss Ariel finished another neck back in third. She was followed by Golden Vision, Ciuri, Broadway Bonnie, Silent Mistake, and Peace Sign.
Patrick Husbands rode the Mark Casse-trained Speedy Soul, who was coming off an uncharacteristically poor performance as the favorite in the 1 1/4-mile Wonder Where Stakes.
“Last time, it was an off day,” Husbands said. “Looking at [Saturday’s] Racing Form, she showed that she was much the best horse. I just wanted to ride her with a lot of confidence, and that’s what I did today.”
A daughter of red-hot second-year Ontario sire Souper Speedy, Speedy Soul earned $60,000 for owner-breeder Joey Gee Thoroughbreds.
