Speedway all the way in Texas Heritage
Speedway dueled for the lead and went on to a 2 1/4-length win over I Spy Wolfie in Saturday night's $45,000 Texas Heritage Stakes for 3-year-olds at Sam Houston Race Park. It was another neck back in third to Makeithapencaptain.
Speedway ($9.60) led the field through fractions of 23.92 for the opening quarter, 47.89 for the half-mile mark, and 1:13.12 for six furlongs in the one-mile race. He increased his advantage in the stretch, and covered the distance over a fast track in 1:39.78.
Larry Taylor rode the winner for trainer Bernie Flint.
The win was Speedway's second in a stakes. He also won the Mountaineer Juvenile. Overall, he has won 4 of 10 starts and $149,847. Speedway races for Stonerside Stable.
