HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Miss Antioch showed a lot of pluck in her last start, and that quality should serve her well Sunday when she takes on 11 others in the ninth race at Oaklawn Park. The allowance for fillies and mares bred in Arkansas will be run at six furlongs, and it carries an optional claiming price of $16,000. Others set to start include Powerfulattraction, runner-up in the Grade 2 Sorrento in 2019 at Del Mar who makes her first start against Arkansas-breds; Flatoutandfoxy, who won back-to-back races last spring at Oaklawn; and Dutch Treat. The card Sunday also includes a first-level allowance for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles. The field of six is led by Jilted Bride, who last year at Oaklawn was third in a race at the same level, behind Bonny South, who returned in her next start to win the Fair Grounds Oaks, and Shedaresthedevil, eventual winner of the Kentucky Oaks. :: Click to learn about our DRF's Free Past Performance program. Miss Antioch comes out of an Oct. 7 race at Remington Park in which she dueled through quick fractions and finished second to Cherished. The first-level allowance sprint was Miss Antioch’s third start – and first against winners – and she also was taking on older rivals, including the multiple winner Cherished. “I was proud of my filly,” said Allen Milligan, who trains Miss Antioch. “That filly that eyeballed her tried to put her away, and she just kept coming back. My filly wasn’t giving up. She’s got a lot of talent and grit and determination.” Following the race, Cherished won another allowance at Remington. As for Miss Antioch, she’s been working at Oaklawn for her first start in four months. Milligan said that after the last race, the decision was made to await the Hot Springs meet to take advantage of the rich purses for Arkansas-breds. The race Sunday is worth $84,000. “I would have liked to have had one out in her,” Milligan said. “She’s still a little bit immature. She just needs a couple of races to get everything together. But she’s training forwardly, doing everything you ask her to do.” :: Start earning weekly cashback on your wagering today. Click to learn more. Richard Eramia has the mount on Miss Antioch from post 8. “I’m glad we’re on the outside,” Milligan said. “We can kind of look and see who’s serious about going, or just sit right off of it. If we find ourselves on the front end, I don’t think we’d take it away from her.” Following the Sunday card, Oaklawn resumes racing Thursday.
