Specialsortastorm has the speed to lead in Clever Trevor

Specialsortastorm has some family history to uphold Friday night when he takes on stakes winners General Shipman and Sweet Soddy J in the $75,000 Clever Trevor at Remington Park.

The race is a stepping-stone to the $300,000 Springboard Mile in December and Specialsortastorm’s half-brother, Wildatlanticstorm, won that race last year as well as the Clever Trevor.

Specialsortastorm has more natural speed than a number of his rivals in the Clever Trevor, a seven-furlong race for 2-year-olds. He could show the way or track both General Shipman and Vino Bianco after he breaks outside of those quick runners from post 10.

Specialsortastorm is a winner of 2 of 5 starts, among his victories a 12-length wire job in a first-level allowance for Iowa-breds in September at Prairie Meadows. He enters the Clever Trevor off a fifth-place finish in the Iowa Cradle, a race in which he never made the lead after encountering significant trouble. Elvin Gonzalez has the mount for Jim Jorgensen and Ray Ashford Jr., the same owner-trainer team behind Wildatlanticstorm.

General Shipman has used his speed to win both of his starts, his latest the $100,000 Prairie Meadows Freshman on Aug. 26. He won that race over Good Like Magic, who came back in his next start to win the Kip Deville at Remington. General Shipman was entered in the Kip Deville in September, but was scratched and has since been working over the local strip ahead of the Clever Trevor.

Ken Tohill has the mount from post 6. Casey Schleis trains the Nebraska-bred son of Midshipman for Jason Cline.

General Shipman could go favored as an unbeaten stakes winner. The other stakes winner in the 10-horse field is Sweet Soddy J, who captured the Timonium Juvenile in September in Maryland. He is cross-entered in the Bowman Mill on Saturday at Keeneland.

Third Street should get good support for his ascending pattern of Beyer Speed Figures. He put up a career-high 74 Beyer last out for his fourth-place finish in the Kip Deville, just two points below the field-best 76 earned by General Shipman in the Prairie Meadows Freshman.

Third Street was a more than seven-length winner of a maiden special weight race in his second career start July 4 at Lone Star Park. He led throughout in that 5 1/2-furlong race before racing from off the pace in the Kip Deville.

Third Street is a horse who could be prominent with a better start this time around. Jose Alvarez has the mount from post 3 for trainer Shawn Davis.

Go Otto Go is back on dirt after racing at Kentucky Downs. He won his debut on dirt in a maiden special weight in May at Churchill.

Go Otto Go is a son of Bolt d’Oro and the mare Court Dancer, a stakes winner who won eight races and earned $483,751. Stewart Elliott has the mount for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Wish Man has been flattered since his debut win, with two runners he defeated coming back in their next starts to win maiden special weight races at Remington.
