Special Rockstar, Moojab Jr. get statebred stakes wins

Special Rockstar won the $50,000 Fiesta Mile for the second year in a row Saturday night at Retama Park, where she was up for a nose win over Zippit E. The race was one of two stakes on the card. Moojab Jr. was a half-length winner over Sunlit Song in the $50,000 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
The stakes were restricted to horses bred in Texas and complemented inductions into the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame at Retama. Those inducted Saturday night were 1936 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Bold Venture, Eclipse Award-winning trainer Todd Pletcher, Tom Durant, Jim Helzer, Julianna Hawn Holt, Corey Johnsen, and One Famous Eagle.
Special Rockstar ($5.80) covered the mile for fillies and mares on firm turf in 1:35.80. There were no fractional times available. Danny Sorenson rode the winner for owner and trainer Mindy Willis. Special Rockstar is a daughter of Special Rate.
Rudy Guerra rode Moojab Jr. ($9.40) for trainer Jerenesto Torrez. The winner covered the 1 1/16 miles on firm turf in 1:42.29. Moojab Jr. is a son of Moojab who races for his breeder, Jose Espinoza.
