Special Edition: 2020 Fall Yearlings, presented by Stonestreet Farm

A wave of change swept the Thoroughbred racing and bloodstock industry earlier this year as it grappled with the global coronavirus pandemic, and those changes will be seen in Lexington this month as the major-market North American yearling sales calendar belatedly begins. The action kicks off with the Fasig-Tipton selected yearling showcase, a re-imagining of the company's three selected yearling sales, on Sept. 9-10, before continuing across town with the bellwether Keeneland September yearling sale on Sept. 13-25. The two auction houses, rivals who compete for the best horses in their catalogs and the attention of buyers, have this year joined forces to navigate the uncharted waters, with Fasig coordinating the dates of its new sale with a receptive Keeneland to allow the two to benefit the industry and to establish joint safety protocols as the pandemic continues.
In our special edition, presented by Stonestreet Farm, you can take an in-depth look at the process of scheduling and conducting these two sales, and find a list of horses to watch at each auction. Our in-depth coverage also includes a look at first-crop yearling sires, led by Horse of the Year Gun Runner and the late champion Arrogate; how statebreds will navigate the changed market; advancements in equine science; and more.
