Special Blessing became a stakes winner Friday night at Evangeline Downs, where she rallied for a 1 3/4-length win over Yes Gorgeous in the $75,000 Equine Sales Oaks. It was another 3 3/4 lengths back in third to Bella Cajun. The race for 3-year-old fillies at a mile was restricted to graduates of designated auctions in Louisiana. Special Blessing topped a 2-year-olds in training sale put on by the Equine Sales Co. of Louisiana last May, when she brought $110,000 from Coteau Grove Farms. Special Blessing ($4.60) on Friday stalked the pace as Bella Cajun took the field through an opening quarter in 25.69 seconds and a half-mile in 51.24. Special Blessing took over through six furlongs in 1:15.42 and then increased her advantage to the wire to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:40.33. Roberto Morales rode the winner for trainer Bret Calhoun. Special Blessing has now won 2 of 5 starts and earned $85,930. She is a daughter of Flat Out.
