Golden Gate Fields

Specht has two in closing day feature

Chuck Dybdal|Oct 13, 2006

ALBANY, Calif. - Golden Gate Fields winds up its fall meeting Sunday with a solid, competitive card from top-to-bottom.

Eight fillies and mares meet in the closing-day feature, a $50,000 optional claimer at six furlongs.

Trainer Steve Specht sends out an uncoupled entry that could prove quite tough. Kiss Kiss Kiss and the recently re-claimed Princess Lianna have a combined record of 8 wins, 5 seconds and 3 thirds from 22 starts here.

Princess Lianna won a race at this level here on May 4 and will be entered for a tag. She's faster than her entrymate, who has run second in her past two starts at this level. Kiss Kiss Kiss is also entered for a tag.

Princess Lianna comes off a good second when claimed for $25,000 from a second-place finish on Sept. 28. She stalked and put her head in front in the lane but hung late in the duel to the wire. She did snap back to life in that race after a pair of dull tries at Del Mar.

Stressless, second to Cut the Mustard in her first race in nine months on Aug. 10, returns to a track she loves. She has 2 wins and a second in 3 Golden Gate starts.

The field also includes Jazznwithcandy, who has won her past two starts, both on the turf.

The meet winds up with a one-mile turf allowance race.

Ultimato, coming off a starter allowance victory at the same distance over this course, and Dixieland Wells, third against similar in his last start, square off in a race that includes last-out winner Dancin Candy; Signoretto Sig, a winner of his last two; Shining Day, loser by a neck when claimed for $25,000 last out; Wilmore; Stanton; and Helmsman Hank.

Earlier on the card, a full field will contest a $40,000 starter allowance at one mile on the turf.

Strong and Fast, who turned in the best race of his career in his first turf start, drew post 2. Strong and Fast not only was making his turf debut but was also making his first start around two turns in the race.

Photon Torpedo, third that day, as well as Banchieri, Toss the Pearls, and Sexy Me, also come out of that race.

Recent maiden winners Like His Style and Stormy Surge are also entered.

The day starts with a challenging pick four and the guaranteed $50,000 Sunday pool. The pick four races, three of them bottom-level type races, could provide a big getaway payoff.
