Spanish Highway prevails in FSN Handicap

Dennis Dodge|May 30, 2006

AUBURN, Wash. - Spanish Highway stalked the sizzling pace of Flamethrowintexan from the inside, angled out to collar that rival inside the furlong marker and dug deep to prevail by a neck in Monday's $40,000 FSN Handicap at Emerald Downs. Spanish Highway got the 6 1-2 furlongs in 1:14.40 under Ken Tohill and earned $22,000 for owners David and Elaine Parks and K J Star Stable.

Flamethrowintexan, the 9-5 choice in his first start of the year, finished a clear second over Norm's Nephew despite burning through a half mile in 43.20 and six furlongs in 1:07.80.

Spanish Highway, a 5-year-old son of Cahill Road who is trained by Bill Tollett, paid $14.40 to win as the third choice in a field of 10 older sprinters.
