Spadina Road takes Deputy Minister Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Spadina Road split horses in the stretch en route to a three-quarter-length score in the $125,000 Deputy Minister Stakes on Wednesday night at Woodbine.
Spadina Road bided his time along the inside in sixth on the backstretch while Flashy Margaritta set fast splits in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds. Spadina Road awaited room on the turn and then closed strongly after finding a clear path to complete the distance in 1:22.94.
Forester’s Destiny, a 12-1 outsider, edged out Eighty Nine Red for third, as the favored Flashy Margaritta faded to sixth as the 128-pound highweight.
The Deputy Minister was a meet-leading 10th stakes victory for Eurico Rosa Da Silva, who got a leg up from trainer Bob Tiller.
“He’s very consistent,” said Da Silva. “He tries hard every time he runs. We had a nice pace to run at. He just waited by himself and ran very strong at the end. He was in really good shape.”
Spadina Road paid $8.10 and earned $75,000 for owner Rolph Davis.
