Sovereign Awards to be held at Woodbine on April 19

ETOBOCOKE, Ontariio – The Sovereign Awards ceremony, honoring the best of Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Racing and breeding in 2012, will be held at Woodbine Racetrack on Friday, April 19.

The Jockey Club of Canada, which announced the finalists in 16 Sovereign Award categories last week, had been awaiting news of when the Woodbine meeting would open before making public the date for its gala.

Three years ago, the Jockey Club of Canada began conducting the Sovereign Awards on the night prior to the opening of the Woodbine meeting and this year’s opening day, Saturday, April 20, was not known until Thursday when it was announced as part of a press conference regarding the racetrack’s future.
